Our spent mushroom blocks are available for $5 per block, with proceeds helping support our small farm.

Blocks will be brought to the Pedernales Market for pickup based on your request.

🌱 Ways to Use Spent Mushroom Blocks

Spent mushroom blocks are made from organic, hardwood-based growing materials and can be put to use in your garden, compost, landscape, or agricultural applications.

🌿 Garden Mulch

Break up the blocks and spread them around garden beds and landscape plants. The organic material can help retain soil moisture and suppress weeds.

🌱 Soil Amendment

Crumble the blocks and work the organic hardwood material and mushroom mycelium into your soil. This adds organic matter and can help support soil microbes and improve soil structure.

♻️ Compost Activator

Add broken-up blocks to your compost pile. The remaining mushroom mycelium can introduce beneficial fungi that help break down organic materials.

🍄 Outdoor Fruiting

Place a block in a shady, moist location and partially bury it under soil or mulch. Depending on the condition of the block, it may produce another small flush of mushrooms.

🌾 Garden & Propagation Projects

Uncompromised blocks can be broken up and used as a mycelium-rich base for certain garden and mushroom-growing projects.

🐄 Agricultural & Livestock Use

Spent mushroom substrate has potential as a supplemental feed resource for livestock, particularly ruminants such as cattle, goats, and sheep. Depending on the growing materials used, spent substrate may provide fiber, protein, minerals, and other nutrients.

Important: Nutritional content varies depending on the mushroom species and substrate. Spent mushroom blocks should be considered a supplemental resource, not a complete animal feed.
